TELUS Kick for Good Courtyard at the 2024 Grey Cup Festival

Overview

The 2024 Grey Cup Festival in Vancouver brought thousands of football fans together in celebration of Canada's most iconic sporting event. Among its most engaging family attractions was the TELUS Kick for Good Courtyard—a community-driven activation that blended sports, entertainment, and philanthropy.

At the heart of this initiative was a unique challenge: fabricate and install a functional CFL field goal post for fans to kick field goals and trigger donations to local youth charities supported by the TELUS Friendly Future Foundation. Every successful kick wasn't just a win for the fan—it was a win for the community.

Objective

001

Provide an interactive, family-friendly activation aligned with TELUS' community values.

002

Engineer a CFL-regulation-style goal post that was durable, safe, and easy to assemble/disassemble.

003

Work within tight timelines and a modest budget while ensuring high production value and logistical feasibility for future reuse.

Execution

CHARLEMAIN PRODUCTIONS LTD was engaged by the Director of Operations for the Grey Cup Festival to provide consulting and production management. Their mandate was to oversee all aspects of the project—from conceptualization and engineering to fabrication and on-site installation.

Collaborating with FusionWorks Fabricating and Engineering, the team developed a custom-designed goal post tailored for temporary use. Key priorities were:

  • Modular Design: Engineered for quick installation and takedown, minimizing on-site labour and time.
  • Transportability: Built to be easily packed, shipped, and stored for future festivals across Canada.
  • Safety & Compliance: Ensured that all materials and construction met CFL and safety standards suitable for public interaction.
